“1 O Lord, how many are my foes!
How many rise up against me!
2 Many are saying of me,
“God will not deliver him.”
3 But you are a shield around me, O Lord;
you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.
4 To the Lord I cry aloud,
and he answers me from his holy hill. Selah
5 I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.
6 I will not fear the tens of thousands
drawn up against me on every side.
7 Arise, O Lord!
Deliver me, O my God!
Strike all my enemies on the jaw;
break the teeth of the wicked.
8 From the Lord comes deliverance.
May your blessing be on your people.
This is devotion 293 of 2012. My observation is that David wrote this psalm when he was fleeing from his son, Absalom who rebelled and tried to kill him. Many people said that David was going to die in the hands of Absalom but God delivered David and gave him victory in the end. We can see the confidence and trust in David even though he was in a difficult situation. He ended the psalm praying for God’s people. He had a big heart for people and thought of God’s people even in his distress. What a man of God! 🙂
My application is to put my hope in God who is my deliverer. I want to continue to pray for His people even in my difficult times and trust that God will bring the victory in His timing.
“Jesus, thank you for your Word this morning. Give me a courageous spirit so that I can have a bigger heart and love people more. I pray for a revival in my heart before a revival in my people. Teach me your ways so that I can also teach them your ways. May you deliver us and bring us victory in your timing. Praise Your name! :)”
