Children’s Day in Ecuador is celebrated on the 1st of June. We usually celebrate it with lots of fun, as a church, on the first Sunday of June. 🙂
2 years ago, the parents dressed up as characters from a famous Latin children’s TV show – El Chavo del Ocho, and put up a performance. Last year, we invited 2 clowns who performed for the kids and helped them with face-painting. 😉
This year, we had a special spiritual celebration. We heard a testimony from Emily, about how her mother brought her and her siblings up to recognise the importance of God and church, and how she, now, as a mother is sharing with her kids and teaching them to value and love God. After the sermon, we held a child dedication ceremony where the church, as the spiritual family, pledged to take care of, be good spiritual parents and examples, and be part of the children’s life. The parents in church made their commitment to bring up their children in the ways of God- to pray for them, to read the Bible with them and to discipline with love. We sealed our commitment in prayer and it was indeed a heart-warming and spirit-lifting time.
After the service, we enjoyed a feast of children’s goodies – ice-cream, sandwiches, jelly, chocolate, cake and cookies! After all, regardless of age, we are all the children of God! 😉
