Interesting read on influence

“Whether you realize it or not, you are a person of influence! You are influencing the people around you even in the most subtle ways. You are setting standards and affecting change everywhere you go! It’s like when you toss a stone into a pond and it sends ripples out across the water. Your life “ripples out” and has influence on those around you.

Influence is simply the power to produce an effect without an apparent exertion. In other words, just by living your daily life, you are producing an effect. If you fail to understand your full value and just go around livingwithout focus or purpose, that’s an example that allows the people around you to rationalize living the same way. But, if you go out determined to live at your best, you are raising the standard. You are being a leader and influencing others in a way that pleases God.

Remember, people are constantly watching and learning from our example—whether positive or negative—and we are responsible for how we influence those around us. That is why it’s essential to hold on to the truth that you are important! Pen those words on your heart and hold them dearly to you because the way you live your life matters. When you recognize your importance and respect yourself, you are honoring God and reflecting to others the value He has placed in you.

Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1, NIV).”

My thoughts: It is kind of scary to think that we can constantly influencing. “Jesus, help me to live a life that pleases you so that I can influence others to follow your ways.”

  1. I’m reading a book called “Jesus Driven Ministry” from Ajith Fernando and yesterday I learnt something that it’s related to this article, I read that for a ministry to be effective we need 2 basic things:
    – Identification with people (Jesus is the greatest example because He even, to identify with people, became like one of us to teach, share and bring us salvation); and,
    – Power from the Holy Spirit, because is His power that can make us stronger, gives us power and forms our character, both are important, we need not just power but allow th Holy Spirit to mold our character, so as leaders we need this 2 things. Jesus was a great leader, and He can show that with his examples. We need to watch our lives as well, we can have great power, can be very charismatic and have empathy with people but if we don’t allow the Spirit to mold us and persist in ungodliness then “ day we will suddenly find that our gifts have left us and we are unable to carry on our ministry” (Fernando A.)
This makes me remember the verse in 1 Timothy 4:16 that says: “Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”
We are influencing on people… this reflection makes me think of how I am influencing the flock… we need to ask the Holy Spirit to shows us His ways

    1. Thanks for sharing your learnings, Laura! 🙂 Indeed, we need the Holy Spirit more to be better influence for the people around us. Let Jesus increase and we decrease in our lives. 🙂
